New class 1 blood into the haulage industry

May 12, 2016

Today, Matt Needham took and passed his class 1 articulated lorry licence. Matt took the funded route and completed the Btec Level 3 Diploma in customer service. By doing this course, he was able to take his lorry driver training and test. Matt was a little nervous to say the least. He completed the reverse in the yard with no problem at all. Yet at the test centre, he took 2 of his allowed shunts forward to adjust position. Once passed the illusive 'killer cone', Matt literally flew into the bay and stopped before hitting the barrier. On to the drive and Matt struggled on one occasion to get into low ratio on the ZF gear box. Nevertheless, he got back to the test centre to complete the uncouple and recoupling procedure.

Matt did not manage to get the unit hitched up at first attempt but with an almighty WHACK, he got the trailer on the unit and recoupled to get his final test grade of a PASS. Only 4 minor faults and a test pass certificate in his hand, it was now Jo's job to get the wagon home.

Well done Matt. Completely well deserved.

Matt: "I’d just like to say that Truck School from Belt Up are great. Both Mike and Jo helped me through my class 1 test, which I passed today. I am over the moon and I know I couldn’t have done it without their help. I would also be happy to recommend them and the team at Truck school to anyone looking to get their lorry licence."
