Areas We Cover

With our HQ based in The Mendip h, we cover the South West of England including:

© 2016 Truck School - a trading name of Mendip Training Centre Ltd

What are the categories?

The medium sized vehicle (C1) is 7.5 tonnes, followed by the Class 2, which takes you to a maximum gross weight of 32.5 tonnes. This then takes you on to the Class 1, which is the articulated vehicles.

LGV Information

We have a 7.5 tonne vehicle and so can train in the C1 and C1+E category. All of the criteria is the same for the class 2 as it is for the 7.5 tonnes. If you have 'acquired rights' as you passed your car test before Jan 1997, you will need the C1+E training and test to remove the weight restriction code to tow larger trailers behind a 7.5 tonne vehicle.
For new drivers to the industry, you will need the following steps;

Prelimary

Medical and provisional licence

You will need to complete a D4 medical with a registered G.P. We normally use a company called Drivers Medicals. You complete the medical and then send off for the provisional LGV licence.

01/

Theory and Hazard perception tests

Theory and Hazard perception tests. The theory consists of 100 questions with a pass mark of 85%. We offer online revision materials as part of our driving packages.

02/

CPC Case Studies test

CPC Case studies test. This is a multiple choice test taken at the theory test centre. It puts the theory knowledge into real life situations and tests your knowledge in dealing with these scenarios.

03/

Practical Driver training and test

Practical Driver training and test. We normally train over 4 days. We generally train one to one so that all of the training time is dedicated to you. Our training days last around 6 hours. The test day will include the test time and the time taken to return to our training yard.

04/

CPC Practical training and test

This is a practical test of your ability to complete daily walk around checks and your knowledge and understanding of different load restraining devices. We will train in our yard and attend the test generally on the same day.

You should now be licenced to drive a rigid vehicle for work purposes holding a driving licence in the category as well as holding a valid CPC card.

Class 1

You are now ready to drive the Articulated Vehicles.

This is a 4 day practical training course followed by the practical test. Once you have passed this test, you can drive any LGV.
